Pete Cox
Pete Cox was born in Newnan, Georgia on January 23, 1932. At age 12, his family moved to Albany, Georgia where he had a stellar athletic career at Albany High School earning 13 varsity letters in sports. He attended Furman University where he played on the football and golf teams. In 1963, he won the Georgia State Amateur Championship and in 1986, won the Georgia Senior Open Championship at the world renowned Sea Island Golf Club. He has won the Radium Springs Invitational 11 times, the Albany City Amateur Championship 6 times, the prestigious Jack Oliver Invitational twice and the Valdosta Open twice. He has won approximately 150 golf tournaments during his career. Pete has been very instrumental in the development of junior golf in the state of Georgia. In 1973, he helped organize the Georgia Junior Sectional Tournament Program. He served as Chairman of this program for 16 years. Pete has served in the Board of Directors of the Georgia State Golf Association for 23 years with a term as Chairman during 1974-1975. During this time, he and Charlie Roundtree started the Georgia –South Carolina Challenge Team matches. He has been inducted into the Albany Sports Hall of Fame, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon, Georgia and was elected a director of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1978, serving as Chairman during 1982-1983.

Pete Cox was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame on January 4, 1992.
