Frank X. Mulherin
Frank X. Mulherin was born in Augusta, Ga., on March 20, 1915. He was nicknamed by fellow golfers as "The Mule." Mr. Mulherin's career victories include one Georgia State Amateur in 1937 and another almost 30 years later in 1965, making him the oldest champion at 50 years old. He was runner-up in the Georgia State Amateur three times. In addition to an impressive amateur record, Mr. Mulherin was also active in the local and state golf communities. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Augusta National Golf Club, and served on the GSGA Board of Directors. Mr. Mulherin was also a founding member of the Augusta Golf Association, an organization committed to promoting junior golf and supporting the golf program at Augusta State University. Frank X. Mulherin, Jr., died on March 24, 1979, at the age of 64. In 1980, the Georgia State Amateur at West Lake Country Club in Augusta honored Mr. Mulherin by dedicating the tournament to his memory.

Frank X. Mulherin was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame on January 9, 1999.
